Building a Contractor Prospecting Database Responsibly
A practical workflow for selecting, validating, segmenting, and maintaining contractor business data.
Define the business question first
Specify buyer, geography, trade, and permitted outreach purpose before collecting records. A Florida roofing territory and a multi-state HVAC software campaign require different scopes.
Minimum useful fields
- Business name and normalized trade.
- State and city.
- Public business phone and website presence.
- Source context and verification date.
Validate before activation
Deduplicate, quantify blanks, retain provenance, and sample against cited public sources. Field presence is not field validity: a populated phone is not proof of reachability and a URL is not proof of business control.
Measure qualified outcomes
Track preview engagement, product views, checkout starts, purchases, and revenue. Business-listing data is not consent; users remain responsible for applicable suppression, communications, and privacy rules.
Check the real inventory
Confirm location, trade, record count, field presence, masked preview, and current product options before choosing data.
